Nobita and Doraemon use the excuse of going out to play baseball to avoid the children of the customer. Doraemon reads the story of the Little Mermaid to the children, but the ending is so tragic that the children cry terribly, leading Nobita's mother to believe that Doraemon is bullying her. Feeling angry, Doraemon takes out his "Storybook Shoes" and goes inside to change the story. First, when the witch asks the Little Mermaid to change her voice, Doraemon berates the witch for being inhuman and heartless. Doraemon then uses the "Bartering Machine" to get the Little Mermaid to exchange her hair clip for the potion. When Doraemon rescues the Little Mermaid, she initially calls him "Mr. Blue Octopus" and, out of gratitude, even considers marrying him. Then, when the prince is about to marry the princess of the neighboring country, she comes out and scolds him for being ungrateful, making him realize that it is the Little Mermaid who save him, and that's why he decides to marry her. Later, Doraemon calls the guest's child, but the child refuses, so he asks Nobita to read a story to her instead. The child discovers that the story has changed, and she cries again because of it.
