Shizuka asks Nobita to go shopping with her after school, which he accepts. But on his way home, Gian and Suneo ask him to play a video game at Suneo's house. Nobita remembers that he's supposed to go shopping and refuses, but Gian forces him to go and threatens to beat him. Nobita runs home and sees Doraemon chasing after another copy of himself. The real Doraemon destroys the other copy (much to its frustration) and introduces him to the Alter Ego Mirage - It generates an aggressive and energetic clone of the target that can be destroyed only by the source, which he exploited to remove rats from Nobita's room. Nobita gets an idea and takes gadget to clone himself, then sends the clone to Suneo's house so he can head off to the mall with Shizuka. The clone drags a protesting Doraemon with him.

At the mall, Shizuka asks Nobita to help her choose what to buy, something he is terrible at. He then gets an idea and creates a clone of her to help. Shizuka is a little freaked out at first when she sees it, but then she and the clone go and shop with Nobita tagging along behind them. Shizuka asks the clone what to buy and the clone says that the one Nobita chose is babyish and tells Shizuka to get the other. Nobita gets mad at this, and in his future attempts the Shizuka clone keeps criticizing him and asks Shizuka why she brought a boy with such bad taste to shop with her.

Meanwhile, at Suneo's house, Doraemon and the clone Nobita are losing to Gian and Suneo in the video game. The clone deems it too boring and lies down.

At the store, Nobita picks out a dress and shows Shizuka the dress, but it turns out that he had mistook another girl for Shizuka, though the girl takes the dress anyway. The two Shizukas come and the clone tells Nobita that why can't he see the difference between Shizuka and another girl, and tells him he should be able to tell which girl is Shizuka by her clothes. Nobita then apologizes yet Shizuka looks at him with dismay, which he began to cry.

Back at Suneo's house, the clone Nobita and Doraemon have lost again and it becomes enraged. The clone unplugs the video game, agitating Gian who proceeds to fight him, while Suneo is surprised at Nobita's unusual behavior, unaware of the clone's status.

At the store, Nobita is sitting alone when he hears Shizuka protesting on something. The clone is arguing with her and tells her to get a dress which Shizuka doesn't like. Shizuka then tries to get rid of it with the gadget, but the clone knocks it out of her hands and onto the ground. Nobita grabs it and turns around, but cannot tell the difference between the two. He gives out some miscellaneous questions to which both of them correctly answers. He then asks if Shizuka likes him. Both blushes, but one (which is the real Shizuka) remains quiet, while the other (which is the clone) yells at him that how can someone like such a stupid boy like him. As clones behave more aggressively than the original counterpart, it gave itself away. Nobita then gives the gadget to the real Shizuka and the clone (much to its horror) is destroyed off-screen. When Nobita and Shizuka return home in the evening, he apologizes for the 'embarrassing' question he asked, and Shizuka blushes again, and they bid farewell to each other.

Just as the episode was about to end, a red hole appears out of the screen and Doraemon pops out of it says “Stop, Did you’re forget something!” implying that Nobita, however, has completely forgotten about the clone he sent to Suneo’s house. The episode ends with the screen rips like fabric and translates into another screen, showing it fighting Gian while Doraemon and Suneo attempt to stop them.
