The episode starts with Nobita, Gian, Suneo, and Shizuka in the play ground. Suneo says that there is a villa on the outskirts of the city where a ghost lives. Nobita is terrified to hear this, and Suneo teases him, saying that he will tell everyone in class that Nobita is scared. Nobita gets angry and says that he is not afraid of anyone, so Suneo challenges him to go to the villa alone at 7 pm without Doraemon's help or gadgets. Nobita agrees.

Nobita asks Doraemon for a gadget, and at first, Doraemon is reluctant. But eventually, he gives Nobita a gadget called the "Courage Hundred Fold Fan". In the evening, Nobita goes to the villa with the fan, but Gian and Suneo follow him to try to scare him. Gian and Suneo see a man and get scared, thinking that he is a ghost. Nobita also tries to scare them, but they realize that it's just him. They tell Nobita that there is a real ghost in the villa, and Nobita laughs, but then the fan's effect wears off, and he gets scared. The man appears in front of them, and all three of them run away.

At Nobita's house, Shizuka comes and tells Doraemon that she is worried about Nobita. Doraemon and Shizuka go to the villa and meet Suneo and Nobita, who tell them everything that happened. Doraemon says that it must have been an illusion, and Shizuka asks where Gian is. Suneo replies that Gian is stuck upstairs (Gian's feet were stuck in the stairs). They all go upstairs to find Gian and manage to pull his feet out. Just then, the ghost (man) appears, and they all run to the upper room. Shizuka slips and falls, and when she looks up, she sees the man's feet (she thinks that ghosts don't have feet). Doraemon also slips and falls near Shizuka. Shizuka tells Doraemon that the ghost (man) has feet, and Doraemon says that they should go and investigate. They both run towards the ghost and remove his upper clothes, revealing that he is a man. Suneo recognizes the man and says that he is the same person whose posters are all over the place. They call the police and hand the man over to them. The police thank Doraemon and his friends and say that the man is a thief who was hiding in the villa to avoid being caught. The police leave, and Doraemon says that there is no such thing as ghosts. Nobita looks at the villa and wonders why the door didn't open. He looks up at the upper room and sees the man again, who runs towards Doraemon and says that he saw a man in the room. Gian gets angry with Nobita and says that he must have imagined it. Doraemon says that they should go home, and they all start to leave. But then Nobita looks back at the upper room and sees the man again, who transforms into a skeleton.
