Legend has it that the Japanese swordsman Miyamoto Musashi possessed a mysterious sword. After Gian tells him his story, Nobita, fearing he will have to practice on the sword, secretly slips away, only to be discovered. Gian indeed decides to use the sword for practice. Shizuka gives Nobita a challenge. To encourage him, Doraemon takes out the sword and asks him and Shizuka to travel back in time to speak with Miyamoto. On their journey, they encounter a time warp, causing them to travel to the era before the Battle of Iwate Island. They see Shizuka being mocked by an ugly thug. Nobita, seeing the thug's ugliness, can't help but laugh, enraging the thugs, who challenge him to a duel. Nobita wins using the sword. Before changing his name, Miyamoto Musashi introduces himself as "I," his original name being "Shinmen Musashi," and historically, he has many other aliases. Miyamoto Musashi falls in love with Shizuka at first sight. Shizuka is kidnapped by thug. The cowardly swordsman, witnessing this, decides to become his apprentice. Nobita and his friends can't shake him off. Then, the thug brings a group of brothers to seek revenge, and Nobita gives the sword to the swordsman, letting him defeat them. The swordsman gains confidence; it turns out he is a young Miyamoto Musashi. Back in the future, Nobita discovers the gadget is broken and can only think about apologizing. As a result, because he arrives too late, Gian catches a cold, and Nobita escapes unscathed.
