Suneo is giving Nobita, Shizuka, and Gian a riddle in a vacant lot. Shizuka and Gian get the answer right, but Nobita can't, earning Gian and Suneo's riddle teasing. Nobita then seeks help from Doraemon, who give him the "Posing Scholar Hat". The wearer of this hat makes any riddle, no matter how simple, sound difficult. Before donning the hat, Nobita asks Doraemon what the sweets falling from the sky are, and Doraemon answers easily. However, after donning the hat, when Nobita asks his mother the same question, she is unable to answer. Nobita then goes outside to show Gian and Suneo the gadget. Gian and Shizuka then compete in a riddle with the town's riddle enthusiast, Tokio. First, Suneo asks the Chinese name of the world's highest peak. Tokio immediately responds with Mount Everest, also giving its Nepali name. He then explains the gases that make up the sun (hydrogen and helium). Tokio then asks the name of a constellation. Unable to answer, Tokio replies "餃子" ("子" and "座" are homophones in Japanese), earning Tokio's mad ridicule. Tokio and Suneo then leave. To counter Tokio, they attempt to invite Dekisugi, but he's ill and can't attend. Nobita encounters Tokio and Suneo and asks them two witty riddles, which they can't answer. They then ask Nobita for help. They then meet Tokio and agree to compete for the vacant lot by playing riddles with them. Unfortunately, the "Posing Scholar Hat" is blown into the water and breaks. Nobita, wearing the broken hat, faces off against Tokio. The duel consists of 10 rounds, with each side asking one question each round. Tokio asks practical questions, while Nobita asks sarcastic ones. In the fifth round, the "Posing Scholar Hat" begins to smoke, but Nobita continues playing. No one answers any questions correctly in the first nine rounds. In the tenth round, Tokio asks which city in the United Arab Emirates is home to the world's tallest tower, an 800-meter tower. Suneo answera Dubai, saying he knows about it because his father has taken him there. Nobita asks Tokio what food his father hated most. Tokio's teammates successfully come up with papaya (which Nobita later confirms to be the correct answer), but Tokio denies it. Tokio loses the contest because he can't answer the question "What food does my father hate the most?" Everyone cheers for Gian and Suneo. Tokio asks Nobita for the answer to his previous question, but Doraemon stops him and rushes away.
